Dave Holland

¿Cuántas veces un nombre describe el concepto total de la palabra arte? Sólo un nombre, y ustedes saben exactamente el punto de partida, las desviaciones en el camino, el paisaje final.
Dave Holland es todo eso, y suficientemente humilde para liderar un grupo, una gran banda, pero no desde el frente, al menos para el oído común, porque Dave Holland puede ser un solista, aún cuando utiliza una gran banda como instrumento, "Overtime" (Dare2 Records, 2005) es un buen ejemplo.
En la noche del miércoles, septiembre 27, 2006, 21:30 hs en punto, vamos a tener la oportunidad de sentir la experiencia, en vivo, en el Teatro Coliseo (Marcelo T. De Alvear 1225).
Estén allí a tiempo, antes del Dave Holland Quintet estará la Mariano Otero Orquesta.
Los músicos en el Dave Holland Quintet son Dave Holland (contrabajo), Chris Potter (saxos), Robin Eubanks (trombón), Steve Nelson (vibráfono) y Nate Smith (batería), presentando su último trabajo, llamado Critical Mass, grabado para el sello personal de Dave Holland, Dare2 Records, con la distribución de Sunnyside Records.
Recuerdo el primer disco solista que cayó en mis manos: Dave Holland Quartet: "Extensions" (1990), si, antes de ese maravilloso album: "In a silent way" (Columbia, 1969) and "Bitches brew" (Columbia,1969) con Miles Davis, y después de eso su experiencia con la banda Circle con músicos tales como el gran saxofonista Anthony Braxton.
De todas formas, es tiempo de pensar en el presente, un nombre, Dave Holland, tan simple, y maravilloso, como la música que toca.


How many times a name describes the whole concept of the word art? Just a name, and you know exactly the point of departure, the turns of the road, the final landscape.
Dave Holland it's all that, and humble enough to lead a group, a big band, but not from the front line, at least for the common ear, because Dave Holland can be a solo player, even when he uses a big band as an instrument, "Overtime" (Dare2 Records, 2005) it's a good example.

Hace unos días tres personas armadas hicieron una declaración en un acto público en Euskadi.
¿En nombre de ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna / Euskadi y Libertad)? ¿Quién sabe? En ese caso es algo bastante estúpido, pero nada fuera de lo común en un proceso de paz, sólo alguien mostrando más fuerza de la necesaria.
Hasta ahora la palabra es calma, la misma palabra desde el punto de inicio del proceso. La mayoría de los grupos políticos entiende esto, excepto uno, si, ustedes saben: el PP (Partido Popular).
Espero que Batasuna pueda detener la "kale borroka" ("lucha callejera"), es tonto hacer eso, sólo alimento para la derecha política y sus medios.


A couple of days ago three armed people made a statement in a public act in Euskadi. In name of ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna / Euskadi and Freedom)? Who knows? In that case it's something quite stupid, but nothing out of the ordinary in a peace process, just someone showing more strength than the necessary.
So far the word it's calm, the same word since the starting point of the process. Most of the politic groups understand that, well, except one, yes, you know: the PP (Partido Popular / Popular Party).
I hope Batasuna can stop the "kale borroka" ("street fight"), it's silly to do that, just food for the political right wing and their media.

Líbano: cuando arte y cultura son los enemigos / Lebanon: When art and culture are the enemies

¿Recuerdan la invasión del Líbano por el Ejército Israelí? Si, fue real, cientos de "ilegales bombas racimo" (aún en las Naciones Unidas están diciendo que es verdad...) todavía en el terreno, muertes, dolor, sufrimiento sin fin.
Pero gracias al artículo de Samia Halaby en Electronic Intifada podemos caminar unos pocos pasos más hacia otra clase de horror, como el estudio de Youssef Ghazzawi destruido por bombas Israelíes.
Dos veces el fue capaz de salvar algo, no esta vez, su esposa, Suzanne Chakaroune, también una artista, perdió todo su trabajo.
Espero que Youssef y Suzanne no sólo obtengan mi simpatía y cariño por el duro momento que están viviendo, quiero enviarles mis plegarias para mejores días, por un mundo respetuoso del arte y la vida.


Remember the invasion of Lebanon by the Israeli Army? Yes, was real, hundreds of "illegal cluster bombs" (even in the United Nations are saying that's it's true...) still on the land, deaths, pain, suffering without end.
But thanks to Samia Halaby's article at Electronic Intifada we can walk a few more steps into another kind of horror, as Youssef Ghazzawi's studio destroyed by Israeli bombs.
Twice he was able to save something, not this time, his wife, Suzanne Chakaroune, also an artist, lost all of her work.
I hope Youssef and Suzanne not only get my sympathy and love for the hard time they're living, I want to send them my prayers for better days ahead, for a word respecfull of art and life.

Julio López, principal testigo en el juicio contra el represor y asesino Miguel Etchecolatz, continua desaparecido, esta información fue conocida el día 18 de septiembre de 2006.
Esta gravísima situación preocupa no sólo a sus familiares y amigos, sino a cualquier persona que recuerde los tiempos siniestros de la desaparición de personas en la Argentina.
Esperando noticias que alivien la angustia del momento aprovecho para difundir la foto de Julio López, de 77 años, 1,70 m. de estatura, ojos verdes, tez blanca, cabello corto rubio / canoso, y como señas particulares tiene cicatrices en el abdomen, resultado de distintas intervenciones quirúrgicas.
