Cumbres y contra cumbres, cuarenta y ocho horas después

Estuve a punto de dejarme llevar por la emoción, era difícil no querer escribir algunas palabras el viernes por la tarde, después que Hugo Chávez, presidente de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela, pronunciará su discurso ante las cincuenta mil personas que se reunieron en los momentos previos al final de la Cumbre de los Pueblos de América, en la ciudad Argentina de Mar del Plata.
Algunos se limitaron a remarcar que fue una larga e intrincada alocución, ¡qué manera torpe de ver la vida!, pues sin pretender definir el mensaje de Hugo Chávez como perfecto, se pusieron sobre la mesa temas a discutir, ideas, algo que no es usual en el mundo de estos días.
Descubrir que las ideologías existen, mal que le pese a Francis Fukuyama (alguien que no resistiría mucho más de un minuto, debatiendo ideas que contradigan su teoría del "fin de la historia"), que se puede debatir sobre posiciones hacia un lado u otro, que no es pecado resistir la hegemonía de los Estados Unidos de América, pero desde una posición intelectualmente seria, despojada de posturas que se limitan al grito estéril y vacío.
Desde mi punto de vista , más allá del reconocimiento a figuras que lucharon por Latinoamérica, se habló de un panorama nuevo, no olvidar la historia, pero no caer en la parálisis intelectual.
Hay muchas cosas para hacer, yo mismo no comparto las mismas ideas de muchos de los que estuvieron allí presentes, y que sin duda en pocos días volverán a posiciones cercanas al gobierno Argentino, casualmente, hoy alguien lo comentaba, Hugo Chávez no mencionó una sola vez al presidente Néstor Kirchner en sus palabras.
No estoy contra el gobierno Argentino de manera cerrada y terca, es que seguimos viendo que actúan por izquierda "para la galería", pero la política interna y externa sigue siendo definida por gente como Roberto Lavagna, Aníbal Fernández y Martín Redrado, por supuesto el mismo Néstor Kirchner.
En resumen, a pensar, a pasar un poco el plumero por las telarañas de nuestra cabeza, les aseguro que las ideologías están vivitas y coleando, y la historia, sigue, a toda máquina.

APPEAL: Ongoing Crisis in Gaza Demands World Attention
Israel’s Wanton Attacks Must Stop

October 30, 2005

Since the Israeli settlers withdrew and the army redeployed from the Gaza
Strip, the Strip has been subjected to constant attacks and unbearable
collective punishments imposed by the Israeli army and aimed primarily at
innocent civilians.

The attacks are carried out in three main forms, the first of which is
bombings by F-16 fighter jets, Apache gunship helicopters, and tanks. These
attacks target civilian areas and infrastructure, including a school and a
charitable organization, both of which were destroyed, as well as homes,
businesses, and roads.

Eight people were recently killed by an Israeli bombing in the crowded
Jabaliya Refugee Camp in the northern Gaza Strip. Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi
attended the funeral of the eight victims, including two children and a
50-year-old school principle, all of whom happened to be in the area when
Israel carried out its illegal assassination attack that killed one wanted
man.

Dr. Barghouthi said, “It was unbelievably sad to see the eight bodies laid
out, including the two small ones, at the funeral. These horrible attacks
against innocent people must stop.”

Sonic Boom Attacks

The second form of attack is sonic booms by low-flying jets that break the
sound barrier. This causes unbearably loud noises and effects similar to an
earthquake; broken glasses and dishes, damage to homes such as cracks in
walls and ceilings, broken windows, etc.

Worse, the sounds are indistinguishable from actual bombings, which are also
ongoing. This terrorizes people and can cause permanent psychological
damage, especially in children, who often become hysterical when they hear
the shattering sounds. Immediate health effects include headaches, hearing
loss, dizziness, and nausea. Heart patients are vulnerable, because the
shock of fear causes a sudden spike in adrenaline in their blood, which can
be deadly. The shock can also cause pregnant women to miscarry.

Sonic booms are some of the most violent and terrifying forms of collective
punishment against civilians, and on a recent night, sonic attacks occurred
at 11:00 p.m., midnight, 1:00 a.m., 2:00 a.m., 2:30 a.m., 3:00 a.m., etc,
depriving 1.4 million people of the basic necessity of sleep. The next day
the attacks started again at random hours. The psychological effects of
this terror cannot be overstated.

This is the first time Israel has employed sonic boom attacks against
Palestinians, presumably because now there is no chance that the collective
punishment will affect settlers.

Palestinians have called on the UN and other international organizations to
investigate the extent of these attacks and the damage they cause as well as
to condemn Israel and demand that the illegal attacks stop immediately.

One Giant Prison

The third form of collective punishment is that Gaza has indeed become a
giant prison, with border restrictions much more severe than they were
before the redeployment. Movement is blocked from every direction,
including Rafah (to Egypt) and Erez (to Israel), which have been closed
almost continuously since the redeployment. The situation is so bad that
many have gone on hunger strike at the Rafah border to demand their freedom
of movement and demand an end to the terrible and illegal collective
imprisonment.

Medicins du Monde (MDM) of France reported in a recent press release that
restricted access through Erez and Rafah has denied a large number of
Palestinian patients access to specialized medical care in Israel and Egypt.
Since the redeployment, Rafah has only been randomly opened five times,
while movement through Erez has slowed to a trickle; the terminal is
currently completely closed.

Patients who require heart operations, catheterization, dialysis,
chemotherapy, etc. are particularly affected. This restricted access
deprives the civilian population and hundreds of patients of their basic
right to health, which is protected by international humanitarian law (IHL).
IHL strictly condemns the use of collective punishment against civilian
populations for political reasons.

MDM demands that Israel guarantee access of the Palestinian population to
medical services and to refrain from imposing collective penalties on the
civilian population in clear violation of IHL principals.

The West Bank, too, has been subjected to collective punishments, including
blockages of movement that have dire social, economic, and health
consequences. A massive new Israeli checkpoint is currently being built
south of Nablus, which aims to completely sever the northern West Bank from
the rest of the West Bank, another step in Israel’s ongoing cantonization
and imprisonment of Palestinian territory.

Call for Immediate Action

Unfortunately, the world at large has very little idea of the scope of
Israel’s attacks, and the international community has not reacted in any way
to stem the tide of illegal and indiscriminate attacks against innocent
civilians by the Israeli government.

In accordance with IHL, Israel remains the “occupying power” in Gaza since
it continues to maintain “effective control” over land, air, and sea around
the Gaza Strip. Its occupation of Gaza has not ended, and in many ways has
intensified. The world must understand what is happening to the people of
Gaza and must act quickly.

The modern world cannot justify illegal attacks against civilians that occur
without any violations by innocent civilian residents of the Gaza Strip in
clear violation of international law.

We call on international citizens to place every possible pressure on their
government, and international actors to place every possible pressure on the
Israeli government to put an end to its aggression against civilians in the
Gaza Strip and to refrain from using terrible collective punishments as
instruments of political control.

Si por mi fuera, que venga Bush a la famosa "cumbre" (con minúscula a propósito, pues ya de antemano sabemos que nada se resolverá allí).
Hace unas horas pude ver a Diego Maradona hablando con Fidel Castro, no fue una entrevista, y ahí está lo que rescato. Los dos rompieron todas las reglas de la televisión, para bien, pues vimos lo que tanta gente teme mostrar. Cuanto miedo despierta una persona con ideas, y aún más si es una persona mayor, un viejo para las "sociedades contemporáneas", es el espanto.
Ya ni hablamos de izquierdas o derechas, bueno, por suerte de izquierdas, que aún están por allí.
Nos vemos Ernesto, dicen, repiten por ahí, hasta la victoria siempre. ¿Será posible un último sueño?

Palestina: puntos de vista

Creo que estoy utilizando demasiado la frase "hace muchos días" y "hace mucho tiempo", sucede que muchas cosas van quedando en el tintero, especialmente si uno pretende tener cierta coherencia.
Es decir, no es un blog de repostería, por eso me interesa ir abriendo temas, a veces con textos breves, otras algo más extensos, el asunto es pensar.
Por supuesto yo tengo una visión respecto a Palestina, no es una simpatía basada en el tópico: "simpatía por minoría oprimida", se basa en el conocimiento de situaciones del día a día en la vida de los Palestinos, algo que no aparece con demasiada frecuencia en los medios masivos de comunicación, generalmente estos se limitan al costado violento del conflicto de Medio Oriente.
Otra duda al comenzar a escribir, era si hacer o no un artículo bilingüe, pero considero que hay abundante información sobre Palestina e Israel en inglés, por lo que me limitaré a escribir en español.
La pasada semana estaba leyendo en el Palestine Monitor, a mi gusto una de las mejores fuentes de información sobre el tema que hoy me trae por aquí, una nota muy interesante. Este material no se limitaba a estadísticas, aunque las había (de muertos y heridos, tanto Palestinos como Israelíes), sino que transmitía la necesidad de entendimiento, comprensión entre las gentes, algo, que como destaqué en el párrafo anterior, ha sido despojado de la imagen que habitualmente nos llega de los Palestinos.
Se desconoce la existencia de fuerzas políticas Palestinas plurales y democráticas, pero las hay, sólo cito un nombre, alguien a quién conocí gracias al intelectual (y músico, pues el lo era aunque pocos lo saben) Edward Said, habló de Mustafá Barghouti (perdón si escribo mal su nombre, pues aparece en diversos lugares escrito de formas diversas), Secretario de la Iniciativa Nacional Palestina.
Mustafá Barghouti ha desarrollado una importante estructura de asistencia médica y social en Palestina, aún con la presión del ejército Israelí, de hecho el mismo ha sido detenido varias veces. Pero tanto su trabajo, como el de las personas de su entorno, se mantiene, crece, y ya comienza a conocerse más allá de las fronteras Palestinas.
Y regreso al concepto que quería trasmitir, que apareció, en otra forma, en el Palestine Monitor: Palestina e Israel deben entenderse, y no hablo de jefes de Estado sentados en una gran mesa, rodeados de ministros, estoy hablando de gente, de pueblos. Algo similar a lo que Edward Said y Daniel Barenboim crearon con la orquesta West Eastern Divan. No es tarea fácil, nadie lo niega, pero tampoco es imposible.
El resto del mundo, como espectadores, no, eso no sirve, también debemos tratar de abrir nuestros ojos y oídos. Conocer al otro, descubrirlo, abrir puertas y ventanas. Con el miedo y el prejuicio, seguiremos por siglos donde estamos: en ninguna parte.

Y el título que encabeza estas palabras nos da la pista: arte y honestidad. Cuando eres suficientemente humilde para conocer tus limitaciones, pero sabiendo que debes luchar más duro.

Del 2 al 14 de noviembre el Teatro San Martín (Buenos Aires, Argentina) ofrecerá un ciclo dedicado al director italiano Pier Paolo Pasolini. EUSEBIO, buena música contemporánea en la Argentina

Acaba de llegarme la gacetilla que promociona la presentación de la banda EUSEBIO.
Para todos los que quieran acercarse, será en el teatro El Piccolino, ubicado en la calle Fitz Roy 2056, en el barrio de Palermo.
El día: jueves 3 de noviembre de 2005 a las 21:30 horas.
Luego de un ciclo de shows realizado en el Hotel Four Seasons de Buenos Aires, EUSEBIO presentará temas nuevos y versiones renovadas de sus temas ya conocidos.
Actualmente la banda se encuentra ajustando el nuevo material y preparando la grabación de su segundo CD, sucesor de "Elefantes de Montaña", editado de manera independiente en el año 2001.

Jazz en la Argentina: La imperdible agenda semanal de César Pradines

Para aquellos que vivimos en Argentina, ya no es ninguna sorpresa saber que aquí se disfruta de muy buen jazz. Músicos como Enrique Norris, Ernesto Jodos, Hernán Merlo, Pepi Taveira, Norberto Minichilo, y cientos de otros nombres, abarcando desde el jazz tradicional hasta la más avanzada vanguardia.
El problema es que con la permanente aparición de nuevos sitios para disfrutar de los shows, sumados a los ya existentes, es difícil saber donde podremos escuchar a nuestros músicos favoritos, pero para eso llega a nuestro rescate César Pradines y su Planeta Jazz.
Los días sábados en el diario La Nación, llueva o truene, podemos acceder a una información muy completa gracias a la agenda de César.
Tanto en la edición de internet, como en la de papel, lo encontraran en la sección de Entretenimientos.
