Jason Parker Quartet - "No More, No Less": aún hay jazz moderno y bello allí fuera... / there's still modern and beautiful jazz out there...

Jason Parker Quartet - ""No More, No Less" (Broken Time Records, 2009) - Cubierta / Cover -

A few months ago Jason Parker (a marvellous trumpet player in the Seattle music scene) was kind enough and sent me his last album: Jason Parker Quartet - ""No More, No Less" (Broken Time Records, 2009), I believe the first thing I told him was something about his sound with the trumpet, something I call "seventies sound", there's energy, but also spaces for the tenderness.

Can you imagine the jazz musicians in the seventies?, specially those with acoustic instruments, rock was there to stay, and a powerful voice was (is) very important, but, seventies aside, we're now in 2010, and Jason Parker Quartet - ""No More, No Less" (Broken Time Records, 2009) is jazz with its feet firmly in the present of this musical genre, and, at the same time, with no fear to take a look from time to time over its shoulder.

"Bashert", a beautiful melody, and, at the same time, full of energy (that's the "seventies sound" my friends!); "Mance's Dance", with a very explosive rhythm; "Idle Moments" to gently fall in a deep blues atmosphere; "Three Hours" opening spaces of freedom, with an amazing work from Evan Flory-Barnes on the acoustic bass, not a surprise, because Jason Parker's company in this album can play jazz at the highest level, as I said before, the fantastic Evan Flory-Barnes on acoustic bass, D'Vonne Lewis on drums, Josh Rawlings on piano, and Cynthia Mullis on tenor sax, as special guest in three pieces.
"Love For Sale", well, Mr. Cole Porter must be really happy listening to these musicians playing his composition in such inspiring way; "Beatrice", not an usual pick (the whole album has a very interesting selection of little musical jewels), but for sure an excellent choice playing this Sam Rivers composition; "Summertime" / "Footprints", two standards, from different moments in time, both enjoying from a superb care and love from the band.

You can download Jason Parker Quartet - ""No More, No Less" (Broken Time Records, 2009), and you can even order the album with the "special package", with complete liner notes, like in the "good old days".

Well, no more words from my side, just the invitation to enjoy Jason Parker Quartet - ""No More, No Less" (Broken Time Records, 2009), I really wish you can have a good time listening this music, you know, good music will live forever, but we must, as listeners and music lovers, to help a little more...
