No me gusta escribir artículos "solo de enlaces", pero esta vez quiero alentarlos a leer, escuchar o mirar, o las tres cosas, a Charlie Haden en Democracy Now!.
Es una gran entrevista de Amy Goodman, celebrando el 10º Aniversario de Democracy Now!, y con Charlie Haden, ustedes lo saben, no es sólo sobre su maravillosa música.

I don't like to write "only links" articles, but this time I want to encourage you to read, listen or watch, or the three things, to Charlie Haden on Democracy Now!.
It's a great interview by Amy Goodman, celebrating the Democracy Now's 10th Anniversary, and with Charlie Haden, you know, it's not only about his wonderful music.

Gernika

No soy un gran amigo de algunas ceremonias de conmemoración, la gente recuerda por un día, pero el resto del año es un espacio en blanco.
Hace veinticinco años el "Gernika" de Pablo Picasso estaba tocando el suelo Español por primera vez, la voluntad de Pablo Picasso fue que sólo con un gobierno democrático en España el "Gernika" debiera estar una exhibición en ese país, y su deseo fue respetado.

I'm not a great friend of some ceremonies of commemoration, the people remember for a day, but the rest of the year it's a blank space.

Enrique Norris (corneta, piano e instrumentos adicionales) y Pepi Taveira (batería, bolón batán, marimba e instrumentos adicionales) son algunos de los mejores músicos de Argentina, su lenguaje es el jazz, pero no tienen problemas si eligen cruzar las líneas y abordar otros géneros y estilos.
En esta ocasión es la presentación de material de un disco a ser editado próximamente: "Qué estoy haciendo?", será el domingo 10, septiembre 2006, 21:00 hs., en el Banfield Teatro Ensamble (Larrea 350, Lomas de Zamora, Provincia de Buenos Aires), un lugar creciendo cada día con un sólido apoyo a una gran variedad de formas artísticas.
Estoy seguro que será una gran noche para los amantes de la música, Enrique Norris y Pepi Taveira nunca guardan una sola nota para ellos, tocan hasta la última.


Enrique Norris (cornet, piano and additional instruments) and Pepi Taveira (drums, bolón batán, marimba and additional instruments) are some of the best musicians from Argentina, their language it's the jazz, but they don't have problems if they choose to cross the lines and embrace other genres and styles.
This time it's the presentation of material from a record to be released soon: "¿Qué estoy haciendo?" ("What am I doing?"), will be on sunday 10, september 2006, 9:00 PM, at the Banfield Teatro Ensamble (Larrea 350, Lomas de Zamora, Provincia de Buenos Aires), a place growing every day with a solid support to a great variety of art forms.
I'm sure will be a great night for music lovers, Enrique Norris and Pepi Taveira never keep a single note fror themselves, they play until the last one.

Es verdad, especialmente si estas dos chicas están cerca. Pinyon Pines, una zona desértica al Sur de California, donde ellas viven ahora, está activa como una gran área artística, gracias al esfuerzo de Liz Gilbert y Kimberly Nichols.
Por supuesto ellas no son las únicas, por ejemplo pueden visitar en la página de internet de Liz Gilbert el gran trabajo de Richard Meyers, pinturas que necesitan ver.
Liz Gilbert está trabajando duro, triste que no tenga suficiente tiempo para dedicar a otra de sus muchas habilidades, como la música, pero pienso que pronto nos sorprenderá con algún buen material.
Kimberly Nichols puede escribir, pintar, tomar fotos y jugar con ellas, bueno, ustedes saben algo sobre ella, hay un viejo artículo en euskir's txoko.
Entonces, debajo de la idea de un tranquilo Estados Unidos, un grupo de gente está tratando de preservar el arte, como una forma de sobrevivir, como una forma de vida.

It's true, specially if these two girls are around. Pinyon Pines, a desertic land at the South of California, where they live now, it's active as a major artisitic area, thanks to the effort of
Liz Gilbert and Kimberly Nichols.
Of course they're not the only ones, for example you can visit at Liz Gilbert's website the great work from Richard Meyers, paintings you need to see.
Liz Gilbert it's working hard, sad that she has not enough time to dedicate to other of her many skills, like the music, but I think soon she will surprise us with some good material.
Kimberly Nichols can write, paint, take photos and play with them, well, you know something about her, there's an old post in euskir's txoko.
So, beneath the idea of a quiet United States of America, a group of people it's trying to preserve art, as a form of living, as a form of life.

Dewey Redman: buenos momentos de música / Dewey Redman: good moments of music

Dewey Redman murió el 2 de septiembre, 2006. Estaba tratando de escribir algo ayer, pero estaba abrumado por la tristeza de su muerte, el no es (perdón, no puedo utilizar "el no fue", su música estará por siempre aquí) sólo un gran músico, como muchos de sus "socios" en varios proyectos: Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, y especialmente Ornette Coleman, su música está profundamente involucrada en las raíces, un respeto por el pasado, y la lucha por tocar una música sobre el ser humano, el entorno y los conflictos a nuestro alrededor. Ese es su arte para mi, como Ornette Coleman, ligado a un respeto por las ideas propias, a pesar de los requisitos de la industria de la música y las tendencias comerciales.
Con su saxo tenor, lejos de su tímido comienzo tocando el clarinete en la banda de la escuela, y muchas veces con su amada musette. Todavía conservo una copia que un buen amigo me dio de "New York is now" (1968), con su amigo "genio" (de acuerdo a sus propias palabras) Ornette Coleman, una copia en cassette, cuando compartir música no era un crimen.
Buenos tiempos junto a Keith Jarrett grabando para Impulse, miembro de la Liberation Music Orchestra de Carla Bley y Charlie Haden, y por supuesto el "tributo" a la música de Ornette Coleman, con Don Cherry, Ed Blackwell y Charlie Haden; Old and New Dreams, para ECM.
Existe una extensa discografía para disfrutar a Dewey Redman, por muchos años, incluyendo el maravilloso disco de Pat Metheny: 80 / 81 (1980).
Un músico único, un rol para seguir por las generaciones que vendrán tratando de encontrar algo, de hecho, el lo hizo hace mucho tiempo: su propio sonido, su voz.


Dewey Redman died on september 2, 2006. I was trying to write something yesterday, but I was overwhelmed by the sadness of his death, he's not (sorry, I can't use "he wasn't", his music will be forever here) only a great musician, like some of his partners in several projects: Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, and specially Ornette Coleman, his music it's deep involved into the roots, a respect for the past, and the fight to play a music about the human being, the environment and conflicts around us. That's his art for me, like Ornette Coleman, linked to a respect for their own ideas, despite the requirements of the music industry and the commercial trends.
With his tenor saxophone, far from his shy start playing the clarinet in the school band, and many times with his beloved musette. I still keep a copy a good friend gave me from "New York is Now" (1968), with his "genius" (according to his own words) friend Ornette Coleman, a cassette copy, when sharing music wasn't a crime.
Good times along with Keith Jarrett recording for Impulse, member of the Carla Bley and Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, and of course that "tribute" to Ornette music, with Don Cherry, Ed Blackwell and Charlie Haden: Old and New Dreams, for ECM.
There's a long discography to enjoy Dewey Redman, for many years, including that wonderful Pat Metheny's record: 80 / 81 (1980).
A unique musician, a role to follow for generations to come, trying to find something, by the way, he did it long ago: his own sound, his voice.

Lost 4: jazz de primer nivel en Chile / Lost 4: top level jazz in Chile

Los muchachos, y la chica, de Lost 4 están tocando sin descanso estos días, especialmente esta semana.
Si están cerca, o planeando visitar Santiago de Chile, tienen dos oportunidades para escuchar a Melissa Aldana (saxo tenor), Alvaro Zavala Chacón (guitarra), Leo Mandujano Madariaga (batería) y Alonso Durán Cuiza (contrabajo). El miércoles 6, septiembre, 22:30 hs., en Club de Jazz Thelonious (Bombero Nuñez 336 - Barrio Bellavista). La invitación es por su nueva música, y algo del próximo disco de Alvaro Zavala Chacón: "Cuerpos" también será parte del material.
Pero eso no es todo, el viernes 8, septiembre, 22:30 hs., en el Club de Jazz de Santiago (José Pedro Alessandri -ex Macul- 85, Barrio Nuñoa), tocando no sólo su propia música, también algunos standards de jazz.
Finalmente, dos días para disfrutar la buena música de Lost 4.
