Días malos para los amantes de la música, Alice Coltrane murió el último viernes.
Una interesante pianista, y una grabación especial viene a mi cabeza: "Stellar Regions" (1967), de John Coltrane, ella está magnífica en ese álbum.
Si no conocen el trabajo de Alice Coltrane, los invito a todos ustedes a visitar su página en internet, y disfrutar su música, repleta con suficientes méritos de su propio espíritu y talento.


Bad days for music lovers, Alice Coltrane died last friday.
An interesting pianist, and a special recording came to my mind: John Coltrane's "Stellar Regions" (1967), she's superb on that album.
If you don't know Alice Coltrane's work, I invite all of you to visit her website, and enjoy her music, filled with enough merits from her own spirit and talent.

Si ustedes recuerdan mi articulo de octubre 7, 2005, bueno, Michael Brecker estaba muy enfermo, y ahora estoy realmente entristecido, porque el murió ayer.
Un gran músico, y un dotado saxofonista. Desde los viejos días con Joni Mitchell o Steps Ahead (por nombrar sólo unos pocos, su carrera es excepcional), y aún antes, hasta sus álbumes como líder, el primero: "Michael Brecker" (1987), y algunas hermosas joyas a lo largo del camino, estoy eligiendo dos ahora: "80 /81" (1980), de Pat Metheny y "Wilderness" (1996), de Tony Williams.
Se que es una gran pérdida para su familia y amigos, mi cariño para todos ellos, para el resto de nosotros, la hermosa música que deja como un maravilloso legado.
Gracias por la música Michael Brecker, de todo corazón.


If you remember my article from october 7, 2005, well, Michael Brecker was very ill, and now I'm really sad, because he died yesterday.
A great musician, and a gifted saxophone player. Since the old days with Joni Mitchell or Steps Ahead (to name just a few, his career it's outstanding), and even before, to his albums as leader, the first one: "Michael Brecker" (1987), and some beautiful gems along the way, I'm just picking two now: Pat Metheny's "80 /81" (1980) and Tony Williams's "Wilderness" (1996).
I know it's a big loss for his family and friends, my love for all of them, for the rest of us, the beautiful music he left behind as a wonderful legacy.
Thank you for the music Michael Brecker, with all my heart.

Inundaciones en Tucumán, Argentina

Lamentablemente algunas veces debemos dejar el arte a un lado, y hablar de situaciones tristes y desagradables, en este caso las graves inundaciones que están afectando la provincia de Tucumán, en Argentina.
Este es el comunicado que está haciendo circular la Red Solidaria para enviar ayuda a las personas afectadas por la inundación.


“La Red Solidaria prepara el primer envío de ayuda a doscientas familias tucumanas cuyas casas sufrieron una inundación de agua y barro"

Iniciando la campaña por Tucumán, los voluntarios de la red llevarán la ayuda a la Capilla San Cayetano de la Ciudad de Concepción, en donde los vecinos fueron sorprendidos por una corriente de agua y lodo que ingresó en las casas alcanzando el medio metro de altura.

La población está bien provista de agua y alimentos, enviados por la intendencia local, por el gobierno tucumano y por el gobierno nacional, pero inesperadamente perdieron todas sus pertenencias y necesitan también ropa, calzado, colchones y sábanas.

Es un inteligente e interesante punto de vista, y meditación, sobre la obra de teatro "Mi Nombre es Rachel Corrie" ("My Name is Rachel Corrie", dirigida por el actor Alan Rickman y co-editada por Katharine Viner). Rachel Corie, miembro del International Solidarity Movement, fue asesinada por las Fuerzas de Defensa Israelíes, ella estaba tratando de detener la demolición de un hogar Palestino.
Entonces, lean el artículo, y allí, pueden también echar un vistazo al resto de la siempre interesante revista Wiretap.


I don't like to write what I call "just links articles", but for time to time it's better to encourage to visit, or to read something, not to copy a whole article, specially in the case of Elijah Barrett's Activism on Stage, for Wiretap.
It's a clever and interesting point of view, and meditation, about the play "My Name is Rachel Corrie" (directed by actor Alan Rickman and co-edited by Katharine Viner). Rachel Corie, member of the International Solidarity Movement, was killed by the Israeli Defense Forces, she was trying to stop the demolition of a Palestinian home.

El momento para el festival oficial de lanzamiento de The Brooklyn Jazz Underground está aquí. Este domingo, enero 14, 2007, 20:30 hs., Anne Mette Iversen estará tocando junto a lo Mejor del Oeste, su proyecto que incluye un cuarteto de jazz y un cuarteto de cuerdas.
El lugar: Smalls Jazz Club (W10th & 7th Ave, Manhattan), y para ser honesto, la música de esta gente es bastante nueva para mi, Anne Mette Iversen fue la "destapadora de oídos" hace algunos meses, y estoy realmente agradecido a Anne Mette.
Entonces únanse a esta talentosa contrabajista y compositora en la presentación del domingo, la buena música está garantizada.
