Allá lejos y hace tiempo, en una vida previa (no realmente), como crítico musical, un buen ejercicio fue la mezcla entre discos nuevos y no tan nuevos, y ese es el espíritu para escribir este artículo.
Abbey Lincoln no es nueva en el juego de la música, el disco más viejo que tengo de ella es de 1959: "Abbey is blue", por nombrar a unos pocos músicos, Kenny Dorham , Wynton Kelly and Philly Joe Jones están allí, en siete canciones, la banda regular de Max Roach en esa época, en los otros tres. ¡Qué músicos!
Material de Kurt Weill, un tema de Abbey Lincoln, ella estaba inclusive entonces mostrando su gran habilidad para hermosas composiciones, y algunos standards aquí y allí.
En los sesenta ella fue una importante activista, en los socialmente sacudidos Estados Unidos, con su marido, Max Roach, grabaron una pieza fundamental en la historia de la musica:

Y enonces un salto en el tiempo, su contrato con el sello Verve fue realmente una buena elección. Suficientes composiciones de Abbey's para hacer a nuestra piel temblar como una hoja de otoño.
Después de ese disco más belleza para compartir: "Over the years" (2000) y "It's me" (2003), tan sólo una opinión personal, encontrarán mucho más si prestan atención a su música.
Y, como me gusta decir, gracias Abbey, gracias por tu voz, gracias por tu música.

"A turtle's dream" (1995) it's cleary one of the best records, not only for her, but also for the music world, with Kenny Barron, Charlie Haden, Pat Metheny, strings in some songs, the saxophone of Julien Lourau, plus the great Victor Lewis on drums. Enough Abbey's compositions to make our skin tremble like an autumn leaf.
After that record more beauty to share: "Over the years" (2000) and "It's me" (2003), just a personal thought, you'll find much more if you pay some attention to her music.
And, as I like to say, thank you Abbey, thank you for your voice, thank you for your music.

The Independent: ¿la mejor elección? / The Independent: the best choice?

Triste para aquellos de ustedes que no leen inglés, porque en este momento, al menos para mi, el periódico británico llamado The Independent está ofreciendo la mejor información sobre los conflictos en Asia y Medio Oriente.
Y no es sólo mi "viejo amigo" Robert Fisk, todo el diario está mostrando una forma decente de cubrir los hechos, hechos, no simples noticias, pues vidas humanas están involucradas.

Hay un sitio llamado Líbano / There's a place called Lebanon

Es difícil describir mis sentimientos en este momento, cólera, tristeza, y sobre todo una terrible y abrumadora sensación de desesperanza. No es una guerra, aún cuando todos los medios masivos, y algunos medios progresistas, están hablando sobre una "guerra", es una invasión, como Irak, no es una lucha entre dos ejércitos, sólo echen una mirada a la pantalla de televisión, vean los fríos números, más de 600 muertos en Líbano, casi 600000 seres humanos desplazados de su tierra, un país en absoluto caos y miseria.

Sí, de tiempo en tiempo un cohete alcanza algún sitio en Israel, odio ver esa violencia, pero para mi es todo lo mismo, no se ven saludables políticos, de ambos lados todo lo que se ve son niños y gente mayor, y como esta tarde, un grupo de chicos con serios problemas de salud, en un hospital de Beirut, desplazados y enfermos. Pocas cosas, como el rostro de un niño, con ojos llenos de terror, no se puede olvidar eso, nunca.

Las Naciones Unidas están jugando, juegos estúpidos, dando aire al gobierno de Israel para mantener la violencia viva, no pueden ver Haifa o Tel Aviv sin agua y medicinas, la Conferencia de Roma fue una mala broma, como el Tour de Verano de Condoleezza Rice.
Y mientras tanto, gente, si, como tu y yo, como aquellos en Gaza, todavía están sufriendo y muriendo, cada día, cada triste día.



It's hard to describe my feelings right now, anger, sadness, and above all a terrible and overwhelming sensation of hopelessness. And meanwhile, people, yes, like you and me, like the ones in Gaza, are still suffering and dying, every day, every sad day.

Ese es mi sueño, porque Enrique Norris está todo el tiempo ofreciendo nuevo aire a esta original idea, un trío, pero no siempre con los mismos músicos, excepto por el. Jazz, si, libertad, si, entonces, no es sólo jazz, es algo que necesitan descubrir.

Bazzola - Norris Dúo: hermosa música para todo el mundo / beautiful music for the whole world

Guillermo Bazzola no era nuevo en el mundo del jazz cuando alguien trajo a casa el disco "Alas", una hermosa grabación, con Guillermo Bazzola (guitarra), Rodrigo Dominguez (saxo alto, tenor y soprano), Jerónimo Carmona (contrabajo) y Sergio Verdinelli (batería y percusión). Todos grandes músicos, pero para mi, fue una plácida sorpresa Rodrigo Domínguez en saxo, aún uno de los mejores saxofonistas que conozco.
Pero, el jueves 20, julio, a las 21:30 hs, en Cultrum, es el momento para un dúo, ¡y qué compañía para Guillermo Bazzola!: Enrique Norris en corneta. Sí, Enrique Norris, trompetista y pianista, un realmente interesante pianista, aún cuando su instrumento "nativo" es la trompeta, y también un gran compositor y arreglador.
Aliento a todos para el show del jueves por la noche, estos "dos muchachos" van a "jugar" los mejores juegos musicales.


Guillermo Bazzola were not new to the jazz scene when someone bring home the record "Alas", a beautiful recording, with Guillermo Bazzola (guitar), Rodrigo Dominguez (alto, tenor and soprano sax), Jeronimo Carmona (double-bass) y Sergio Verdinelli (drums and percussion). All great musicians, but for me, a pleasant surprise was Rodrigo Domínguez on sax, still one of the best sax players that I know.

NU vota por sanciones contra Corea del Norte...¿qué hay de Israel? / UN votes for North Korean sanctions...what about Israel?

Es una vergüenza, si que lo es. Estoy contra las armas nucleares, pero al mismo tiempo que el Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas (casi todos los miembros constructores de armas nucleares) está votando contra la demostración nuclear de Corea del Norte, bueno, Israel está asesinando gente en el Líbano, ¿y quién sigue en la lista de Israel? Quién sabe.
Los Palestinos están en esa lista, desde hace mucho tiempo, y la paz, si, también está allí.


It's a shame, yes it's.
