Estoy escuchando / I'm listening: Norris Trío - "300" (enonane records, 2012)

Hace unos días estaba diciendo a un amigo que odio las listas, y "listas de éxitos" también, especialmente en estos días, cuando un año está llegando a su fin, en todos lados, una loca manera de mirar sobre nuestro hombro para ver los meses pasados, pero, como ser humano, necesito cerrar algunas puertas de tanto en tanto, y pienso que mi última selección de música para 2012 es la correcta.

Norris Trío - "300" (enonane records, 2012) es la última grabación del Norris Trío con Cristián Bórtoli, su contrabajista original, pero no hay tristeza aqui, sólo la pura alegría que usualmente podemos encontrar en cada álbum de este asombroso grupo de jazz.

Enrique Norris es el hombre a cargo, pero no en la "manera capitán barco pirata", la libertad está en la aire, y por supuesto dentro, y hasta fuera de la música.
Pablo Díaz en batería, también un miembro original de esta bella experiencia musical, es siempre una poderosa fuerza creativa, toda la banda puede entregar una joya de jazz detrás de otra, con la misma refrescante magia.

"La risa del eco", algunas veces la bella combinación entre los sonidos de Africa y el jazz están muy cerca.
"Brillo nuclear", jazz y blues bajo un dulce brillo.
"Bapol", si habla el piano, silencio para escuchar y disfrutar.
"Tres pronósticos", cuando la belleza está escondida en una pieza musical.
"P.M.", volando alto en una amigable jam de jazz.
"Ticrinas", cierren sus ojos, y sueñen.
"Odmun", si hay swing, sólo bailen.
"Keté keté", Africa, nuevamente, un placer, como es habitual.
"A veeer", la noche está bien abierta.
"Te buscan", y maravillosos sonidos los encontrarán.
"Es inútil que blá, blá, blá, blá...", diciendo adiós a la manera del jazz.

Lo dije hace muchos años, para el Norris Trío el jazz es sólo una llave, desde allí ellos pueden ir a donde quieran, el patio de juegos es un sitio abierto para explorar, y a ellos les encanta hacerlo, y lo harán nuevamente en su próximo álbum, con Maximiliano Kirszner, su nuevo contrabajista.

Mis amigos, nada más que decir,sólo abran sus almas, corazones, y oídos, la buena música está aquí para quedarse.


A few days ago I was telling a friend that I hate lists, and "top lists" too, specially these days, when a year is reaching its end, everywhere, a crazy way to look back over your shoulder to see the past months, but, as a human being, I need to close some doors from time to time, and I think my last music selection for 2012 is the right one.

Norris Trío - "300" (enonane records, 2012) is the last recording from the Norris Trío with Cristián Bórtoli, its original double bass player, but there's not sadness here, just the pure joy we usually can find in each album from this amazing jazz group.

Enrique Norris is the man on charge, but not in the "pirate ship captain way", freedom is in the air, and of course inside and even outside the music.
Pablo Díaz on drums, also an original member from this beautiful musical experience, is always a strong creative force, the whole band can deliver one gem of jazz after another, with the same refreshing magic.

"La risa del eco" / "The echo's laugh", sometimes the beautiful combination from Africa's sounds and jazz are very close.
"Brillo nuclear" / "Nuclear glow", jazz and blues under a sweet bright.
"Bapol", if the piano talks, silence to listen and enjoy.

"Odmun", if there's swing, just dance.
"Keté keté", Africa, again, a pleasure, as usual.

"Te buscan" / "Looking for you", and wonderful sounds will find you.
"Es inútil que blá, blá, blá, blá..." / "It is useless that blah, blah, blah, blah..." , saying goodbye the jazz way.

I said it many years ago, for the Norris Trío jazz is just a key, from there they can go wherever they want, you know, the playground is an open place to explore, and they love to do it, and they'll do it again in the next album, with Maximiliano Kirszner, the new double bass player.

Una de las mejores cosas que pueden encontrar para sanar el alma, si, exactamente, música, y si la música suena tan bien como esta nueva grabación del Norris Trío, no sólo tienen suerte, están musicalmente bendecidos, por este interesante proyecto creado por Enrique Norris.
Enrique Norris (corneta, piano, otros instrumentos, voz), Cristián Bórtoli (contrabajo, percusión, voz) y Pablo Díaz (batería, percusión, voz), están ahora, más que en cualquier trabajo previo juntos, claramente bajo el encantamiento de Africa, desde la primer pieza, "Labái", incluyendo cantos Africanos, pero ellos no son sólo tres músicos tratando de copiar música Africana, ellos están profundamente involucrados dentro del espíritu de Africa, y cuando "Labái" despega, y los músicos cruzan sus senderos, hay un sentido en todo sonido, de la batería, el contrabajo, la corneta, el piano, cayendo en el sitio perfecto.
"Página en construcción" salta dentro del territorio del jazz, pero sin fronteras, algo habitual en el Norris Trío, jugando con la tensión de la música, yendo rápido, y lento, y rápido nuevamente, con un soberbio trabajo de Pablo Díaz en la batería.
"Sin hollejo" , un solo de batería, donde no hay duda sobre el fantástico baterista que tenemos en Pablo Díaz.
"Pensando en líneas", en esta ocasión, un espacio solista para Cristián Bórtoli en contrabajo, demostrando porque el también es parte de esta maravillosa banda.
"¡Qué sound! suena como un trío tocando como una big band, con un fabuloso e hipnótico swing.
"Elvin", una buena oportunidad para escuchar las habilidades de Cristián Bórtoli como compositor, y una gran interacción con Pablo Díaz en batería.
"Ni lo otro ni lo uno", Enrique Norris en piano, no es nuevo que el puede lograr el mismo excelente efecto en cualquier instrumento, corneta, piano, ustedes sólo nómbrenlo.
"Gatocactus", más jazz, fresco como sólo Enrique Norris, con la ayuda de sus socios, pueden tocarlo
"Una pintura de Klingsor", una introspectivo y bello punto de vista, en esta composición de Pablo Díaz , con Enrique Norris en corneta, y Cristián Bórtoli trayendo sonidos mágicos utilizando el arco en su contrabajo.
"Labái otra vez", de vuelta al comienzo, y eso es Africa pura.
Sobre todo, una grabación para disfrutar de inicio a fin, y ser escuchada nuevamente, y nuevamente, porque la buena música, en este alto nivel de creación, no es algo que encuentren en cada calle estos días.

Enrique Norris (cornet, piano, other instruments, vocals), Cristián Bórtoli (acoustic bass, percussion, vocals) and Pablo Díaz (drums, percussion, vocals), are now, more than in any previous work together, clearly under the spell of Africa, since the first piece, "Labái", including African chants, but they're not just three musicians trying to copy African music, they're deeply involved inside the African spirit, and when "Labái" takes off, and the musicians cross their paths, there's a meaning in every sound, from the drums, the acoustic bass, the cornet, the piano, falling in the perfect place.

Casa Frida Estudio (15 años, 160 discos producidos), un estudio de grabación de Argentina, estará realizando un gran "experimento", con conciertos en vivo en su mayor sala de grabación.

Enrique Norris & Pepi Taveira: la belleza de la música como fuerza esencial / Enrique Norris & Pepi Taveira: the beauty of music as essential force

En la historia de la música, cuando dos, o más grandes músicos, deciden unir fuerzas por un proyecto común, dos cosas pueden pasar: desastre total, sin química de ningún tipo, o el Cielo en la Tierra, una bellamente construida interacción entre las mentes creativas involucradas. Suerte para mi, porque en este mismo momento tengo un disco para certificar la segunda opción.
Lo se, algunas veces existe un resultado gris, pero en este caso, el disco de Enrique Norris & Pepi Taveira: "¿Qué estoy haciendo?" (Enonane Records, 2006), es ciertamente un ejemplo de un brillante trabajo.
Grabado en mayo 6, 2006, en Casa Frida Estudio, ahora la grabación está comenzando a caer en las manos de gente buscando sonidos placenteros, música fuera de lo ordinario.
Nueve piezas, cinco escritas por Enrique Norris (corneta, piano, pigmeun horn, ocarina, milk drum, etc.), cuatro por Pepi Taveira (batería, bolón batán, kalimba, marimba, tos, etc.).
Pueden viajar a través de un tapiz de antiguos sonidos Africanos, de regreso a la vida gracias al uso de Pepi Taveira de diferentes instrumentos de percusión, pero también por Enrique Norris, en el piano o con su corneta, enseñándonos que la música Africana no es sólo ritmo, hay mucho más en ese olvidado continente.
Entonces dejan Africa para seguir el entusiasmo del Be Bop, el espíritu del Free Jazz, pero no es una reinterpretación de música del pasado, la libertad de las formas del jazz mueve a estos dos músicos hacia lugares que desconocemos, la frescura y sensibilidad de su música son una invitación a abrir nuestros oídos, mentes y corazones.
Deseo que puedan encontrar esta grabación, entonces deseen lo mismo para su familia y amigos, los buenos deseos, como la buena música, siempre son algo bueno para compartir.


In the history of music, when two, or more great musicians, decide to join their forces for a common project, two things can happen: total disaster, no chemistry at all, or Heaven on Earth, a beautifully built interaction between the creative minds involved. Lucky me, because right now I've got a record to certify the second option.
I know, sometimes there's a grey outcome, but in this case, the Enrique Norris & Pepi Taveira album: "¿Qué estoy haciendo?" ("What am I doing?", Enonane Records, 2006), it's for sure an example of a brilliant work.
Recorded on may 6, 2006, at Casa Frida Studio, now the recording it's starting to fall in the hands of people searching for pleasant sounds, and music out of the ordinary.
Nine pieces, five written by Enrique Norris (cornet, piano, vocals, pigmeum horn, ocarina, milk drum, etc.), four by Pepi Taveira (drums, bolón batán, kalimba, marimba, cough, etc.).
You can travel throughout a tapestry of ancient African sounds, back to life thanks to Pepi Taveira use of diverse percussion instruments, but also by Enrique Norris, on the piano or with his cornet, teaching us that African music it's not only rhythm, there's a lot more in that forgotten continent.
Then you leave Africa to follow the enthusiasm from the Be Bop, the spirit of Free Jazz, but it's not a reinterpretation of music from the past, the freedom of jazz forms moves these two musicians into places we don't know, the freshness and sensibility of their music are an invitation to open our ears, minds and hearts.
